According to the U.S. CENSUS BUREAU, about 75% of the nation’s businesses are run by self-employed individuals who have no paid employees. Nearly have of all U.S. businesses are home-based per the bureau’s findings.
The survey of 2.3 million business owners was conducted in 2002. 60% of business owners used their own money or family assets to start their businesses.
Their business is the primary source of income for 70% of business owners who have employees, compared with 44% of business owners who don’t have employees.
Businesses without employees are more likely to be part-time ventures. 43% of owners of non-employee firms work less than 20 hours a week on the business.
More than 30% of business owners are 55 or older, and another 29% are between 45 and 54. Only 2% are younger than 25!!!
